Solifenacin (VESIcare) is a prescription medication used to treat overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms, including frequent or urgent urination and incontinence.
As an antimuscarinic agent, it works by relaxing the bladder muscles to increase capacity.
It is taken orally once daily, commonly in 5 mg or 10 mg doses.
Treats overactive bladder (OAB) in adults; also used for neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in children.
Dosage: Taken once daily, with or without food, as a tablet.
Side Effects: Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, and nausea.
Use caution with glaucoma, liver disease, kidney disease, or severe constipation.
Common Side Effects & ManagementDry Mouth: Try chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on hard candies.
Constipation: Increase fiber intake and drink plenty of water.
Blurred Vision/Dizziness: Avoid driving or operating machinery.
WarningsHeat Prostration: Solifenacin reduces sweating, which can increase the risk of heat stroke in hot weather.
Urinary Retention: It may cause difficulty emptying the bladder, especially in patients with existing bladder outlet obstruction.
