Skin tags (also called acrochordons) are small, soft, benign skin growths that often appear in areas where the skin folds or experiences friction.
Flesh-colored or slightly darker
Soft and often hang off the skin by a thin stalk (pedunculated)
Range in size from a pinhead to a few millimeters
Commonly found on: Neck Underarms Eyelids Under the breasts Groin area
The exact cause isn’t known, but contributing factors include:
Friction from skin rubbing against skin or clothing Hormonal changes-during pregnancy) Genetics Obesity Insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes Age
Treatment Options
Skin tags don’t need to be treated unless they’re: Irritated Uncomfortable Bleeding Cosmetically bothersome
Removal methods include: Cryotherapy – Freezing with liquid nitrogen Electrocautery – Burning with electric current Excision – Cutting off with sterilized scissors or a scalpel Ligation – Tying off with a surgical thread to cut off blood supply
