Pseudothrombocytosis

Pseudothrombocytosis is caused by a wide range of disorders such as microerythrocytosis due do iron deficiency anaemia.

Additional causes:Haemoglobin H disease with red cell fragmentation, cryoglobulinaemia and various red cell fragmentation syndromes including microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, and severe burns.

Red blood cell membrane disruption can generate smaller red blood cells that may be incorrectly counted as  platelets by automated counters.
