Prinzmetal angina

A clinical entity characterized by rest angina as a result of coronary vasospasm.

Response to vasodilator therapy, nitrates in particular.

Diagnosis can be established by coronary angiogram showing focal or diffuse spasm, occasionally only noted on provocation testing.

Has a high prevalence among patients with chest pain, particularly among Asian individuals.

Prevalence has increased significantly in the last decade.

Advanced age, history of heart failure, the presence of chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, and acute myocardial infarction are predictors of higher mortality among patients with PA.

Patients with acute myocardial infarction without PA, those with PA have a lower incidence of in-hospital mortality.
