PPD-TST (purified protein derivative-tuberculin skin test)

Evaluates for the presence of tuberculosis infection but does not distinguish active from latent disease.

Skin test produces skin induration at site of intradermal injection when read 48-72 hours after injection in patients with tuberculosis infection.

Also known as the intradermal Mantoux test.

Often an unreliable test with false negative results in high risk groups, especially immunosuppressed patients and young children.
