Indirect antilobulin test (Indirect Coombs test)

Used to detect alloantibodies.

One-fourth of patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia who receive transfusions develop alloantibodies to one or more common blood group antigens which they lack.

To detect alloantibodies to minor blood group antigens, most laboratories rely on the indirect Coombs’ test.
