Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) gene

Involved in CNS cholesterol homeostasis.

Associated with longevity.

A functional single nucleotide polymorphism at codon 405 (exon 14) substitutes valine for isoleucine is associated with lower CETP protein serum concentration and activity and is associated with increases in HDL levels and lipoprotein particle size (Thompson A).

CETP V405 homozygosity associated with slower memory decline and decreased incidence of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease risk(Saunders A).

CETP V405 homozygosity associatedfor a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)with a substitution of valine (V) for isoleucine (I) at codon 405 in the CETP gene and is ov2242epresented in the very elderly (Barzilai N).

Individuals with SNP CETP 405 mutation have decreased CETP levels.

Decreased CETP associated with increased HDL cholesterol levels and lipoprotein particle size which may be cardioprotective (Gordon DJ).

Homozygosity for SNP CETP 405 mutation seen more often in children of very elderly compared to children of individuals with a shorter life span (Barzilai N).
