Animal bites

Wound infections associated with animal bites usually have polymicrobial agents.

Pasteurella species are commonly isolated pathogens in most animal bites, especially with dog and cat bites.

Wound infections tend to be aggressive with manifestations within 24 hours, and can be associated with rapidly progressive inflammatory changes.

Can infect deep soft tissues with tenosynovitis, septic arthritis and osteomyelitis.

Infections can disseminate and cause meningitis and endocarditis.
