Vibegron (brand name Gemtesa) is a prescription oral medication used to treat overactive bladder (OAB).
It works by relaxing the bladder muscles, which helps increase bladder capacity and reduce the sudden urge to urinate, frequent trips to the bathroom, and leakage accidents.
Stimulates β₃ receptors on the detrusor, promoting bladder relaxation during the storage phase and increasing functional capacity [2]
The standard adult dose is one 75 mg tablet taken once daily.
Administration: It can be taken with or without food.
Drug Class: It is a beta-3 adrenergic agonist.
Unlike older OAB medications, it is highly selective and generally carries a lower risk of causing dry mouth, constipation, or cognitive side effects.
Indications:
OAB (urgency, urge incontinence, frequency) in adults
OAB in adult males concurrently on pharmacologic therapy for BPH. It is the only β₃ agonist with dedicated data in this population.
Common side effects: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, and cold or upper respiratory infection symptoms.
Urinary retention: It may cause trouble emptying your bladder completely, especially if there is a history of a bladder blockage.
Allergic reactions:
Because it does not interact with major liver enzymes.
