Ventilation perfusion lung scan

A normal ventilation-perfusion lung scan essentially rules out the presence of a pulmonary embolism.

Majority of patients with pulmonary embolism do not have findings to suggest a high probability of a pulmonary embolism, and the majority of patients without embolism do not have normal findings on scanning.

Associated with up to 0.9 mSv radiation exposure.
