Variegate porphyria

Most common in South African whites with an underlying defect of approximately 50% of protoporphyrinogen oxidase, which is inherited associated an autosomal dominant.

Symptoms similar to but often more severe than Hereditary coproporhyria.

Patients excrete large amounts of ALA and PBG into urine and protoporphyrin in the stool.
