Response rate in 30% of patients of elderly patients with AML or myelodysplastic syndrome with unfavorable prognostic features.

Exposure of this agent during the first trimester linked to an increased risk of congenital spina bifida and other congenital abnormalities.

Valproate is the most teratogenic anti-seizure medication income and is associated with a lower IQ and higher rates of autism in offspring, and should be avoided whenever the possibility of pregnancy exists.

It is associated with higher risks of hepatic toxicity, hyperammonemia, thrombocytopenia, and other forms of coagulopathy.

Prenatal use is associated with a significant increase risk of autism spectrum disorder and childhood autism (Christensen J et al).

Rarely associated with hyperammonemic encephalopathy..
