An immunomodulatory polypeptide that is produced by the thymus gland and augments T-cell immunity by stimulating T-cell differentiation, maturation, activation of natural killer cells and dendritic cells and stimulates pro inflammatory cytokine release.
May improve efficacy of DTIC-based chemotherapy regimens when added to such treatments (Rasi G).
In a study of 488 patients randomized to multiple treatment groups: DTIC plus alpha interferon plus Thymosin alpha1 compared to DTIC plus alpha interferon alone demonstrated a higher degree of activity and a more prolonged response rate for the Thymosin alpha1 combination (Maio M).
