Buprenorphine (Sublocade)

Sublocade is a once-monthly prescription injection containing buprenorphine, designed to treat moderate-to-severe opioid use disorder in stabilized adults as part of a complete treatment plan.

It reduces cravings, prevents withdrawal, and requires administration by a healthcare provider into the abdomen.

Common side effects include injection site reactions, constipation, nausea, and headache.

Buprenorphine, is a Schedule III controlled substance.

Administered subcutaneously in the abdominal region once every 26 days.

Risk of serious harm or death if injected intravenously.

Only available through the SUBLOCADE REMS Program.

Side Effects: Common reactions include pain, itching, redness, abscess, or nodule at the injection site, along with constipation, headache, and nausea.

Sublocade can cause severe harm or death if injected into a vein.

It also carries risks of respiratory depression, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, and liver injury.

Common Side Effects: The most frequent side effects are related to the injection site, including pain, itching, and redness.

Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, constipation, and fatigue.

Administration and Duration

The injection is designed to be long-acting, lasting for a full month.

Administration: It must be administered by a healthcare provider.

Sublocade is used to treat adults with moderate to severe opioid use disorder who have already been stabilized on a transmucosal (tablet or film) buprenorphine product

It should be used as part of a complete treatment plan that includes counseling and support.
