Spermatogenesis

Occurs in the semineferous tubules of the testicles.

A process of mitosis and two rounds of meiosis.

Some sperm undergo replication but do not advance further and provide a supply of cells for spermatogenesis.

Dividing sperm develop at the same time.

Mature sperm move from the somniferous tubules to the epididymis where they become motile.

Sertoli’s cells in the somniferous tubules secretes substances that aid in meiosis, phagocytes cytoplasm left over from spermiogenesis secretes androgen binding protein, inhibin, estradiol and giant cell lie derived neutrophilic factor.

Begins at puberty and continues until death.

As plasma levels fall the quantity and quality of sperm cells wane.
