Patients experience excruciating paroxysms of of unilateral orbitotemporal hedache that persissts for seconds to minutes and recur up to 200 times daiky.
Treatments include topiramate, lamotrigine, gabapentin, and intravenous lidocaine.
Deep brain stimulation of the hypothalamus may be helpful for refractory disease.
