A benign melanocytic tumor.

Nevi are congenital benign melanocytic tumors that can be further classified into junctional, subepithelial, compound, and blue nevus as well as congenital melanocytosis.

Patients with many nevi are at increased risk for the development of melanoma.

Atypical changes are warning signs for the evolution to melanoma and include variation in color, increase in diameter, height and asymmetric borders.
