Multisystem organ failure from sepsis

Incremental degrees of pathophysiological changes in individual organs as a result of severe infection characterized by systemic inflammation and widespread tissue injury.

Organ dysfunction varies from mild to organ failure.

Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is a syndrome in which development of progressive and potentially reversible physiologic dysfunction in 2 or more organs or systems induced by acute insults, usually sepsis.

A systemic inflammatory response syndrome to sepsis.

Septic shock may be present with hypotension with systolic blood pressure less than 90 mm HG or in the presence of a 40 mm HG drop from baseline wit resulting organ dysfunction from perfusion impairment and lactic acidosis, impaired mentation and oliguria.
