Momelotinib

Momelotinib brand name Ojjaara is a prescription oral tablet approved to treat intermediate or high-risk myelofibrosis in adults who have anemia.

An oral JAK1/JAK2 and ACVR1 (ALK2) inhibitor from GSK, used for myelofibrosis in adults with anemia.

Unlike ruxolitinib or fedratinib, it inhibits ACVR1, which lowers hepcidin and can improve anemia.

Approved for intermediate or high-risk myelofibrosis with anemia.

Treats Myelofibrosis: Helps manage a rare bone marrow cancer where scar tissue replaces normal marrow.

Improves Anemia: helps raise red blood cell counts and reduces the need for blood transfusions.

Reduces Spleen Size: Helps shrink an enlarged spleen and ease related symptoms like fever, night sweats, and bone pain.

It is a JAK Inhibitor: Blocks specific proteins JAK1 and JAK2 that cause abnormal blood cell production and swelling.

ACVR1 Inhibition (Activin receptor Blocks ACVR1 to lower hepcidin levels, making more iron available to build healthy red blood cells.

Dosage and Administration

Standard Dose: Take 200 mg by mouth once a day.

Food: Take with or without food.

Tablets: Swallow whole. Do not cut, crush, or chew.

Common Side Effects

Low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia) leading to easy bruising or bleeding Bacterial infections Fatigue and dizziness Diarrhea and nausea

Serious infections, liver toxicity, major cardiovascular events, thrombosis, secondary malignancies, and embryo-fetal toxicity.
