Metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer

Approximately 10 to 20% of men with prostate cancer will develop castration resistant prostate cancer within three years of diagnosis and greater than 84% of patients will have already developed metastasis at the time of castration resistant prostate cancer diagnosis.

Metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is the terminal cancer with the poor prognosis.

It is suggested that androgen suppression offers a selective benefit to androgen independent cells that grow and eventually repopulate the tumor.

Patients with mCRPC have a median overall survival of approximately two years from mCRPC onset to death.

These patients account for a large portion of prostate cancer related deaths.

Treatment for castration resistant prostate cancer is determined by use of prior therapies, as all patients with meditative disease eventually develop CRPC.

Available treatments include novel, antigen receptor, pathway inhibitors, abiraterone, enzalutamide, apalutamide and durolutamide.
