Meiosis

Genetic information in diploid germ cells is halved

Genetic material is initially doubled prior to the first meiotic division.

Produces two diploid daughter cells.

Each daughter cell undergoes a second meiosis that is not preceded by a doubling, resulting in four haploid daughter cells.

Haploid cells fuse to produce a genetically unique offspring.
