Lindsay’s nails

Half and half nails show the proximal portion of the nail white and the distal half red, pink, or brown, with a sharp line of demarcation between the two halves.

Red, pink or brown bands occupy 20-60% of the nail bed in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Proximal white band suspected to be a result of chronic anemia and the colored band due to increased melanin deposition distally from possible increased Beta melanocyte stimulating hormone.
