Diagnosed by crying and fussing for more than three hours per day, more than three days per week, and for more than three weeks in an otherwise healthy and well fed infant ( Wessel MA et al).
A common cause of inconsolable crying during the first months of life.
Felt to be a pain syndrome.
Multifactorial and includes allergies to cow’s milk proteins, intestinal hormone anomalies, central nervous system dysregulation and parental factors.
Clinically suspected to involve the gastrointestinal tract.
The process is benign, and self-limited.
Associated with migraine in children and adolescents aged 16 to 18 years (Romanello S et al).
