Hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapy

Hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) occur with platinum compounds:carboplatin, cisplatin, oxaliplatin, and to taxanes: paclitaxel, docetaxel and cabazitaxel.

Also occur with rituximab and trastuzumab.

HSRs range from itching, flushing, and rashes, to life-threatening events such as hypotension, dyspnea, seizures, and fatalities.

HSRs can involve the skin with itching, flushing, and rash, the respiratory tract with dyspnea, wheezing, hypoxia, and airway blockage due to angioedema, the GI tract with nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, and the cardiovascular system with hypotension, arrhythmia and myocardial infarction.
