Histone deacetylase

Involved in the pathogenesis of some lymphomas, particularly diffuse large B cell lymphoma, via regulation of the BCL6 gene.

Inactivate tumor suppressor genes and lead to oncogenic transformation.

Histone deacetylation generates tightly condensed conformation DNA that can restrict ability of genes to interact to interact with transcription factors that can result in epigenetic silencing of genes, such as tumor suppressor genes.

Repressing the transcription of tumor suppressor genes and cause cancer cells to proliferate.

Catalyzes the removal of acetyl groups from histones and transcription factors.

Some malignancies overexpress HDAC resulting in hypoacetylation of histones.
