Belching

Expulsion of gas fro the stomach while retaining solid and fluid material.

A normal physiologic process aimed to remove gas from the stomach when an occasional event.

Air swallowed during meals or introduced with carbonated beverages and other foods is expelled periodically by belching during or after meals.

Repetitive activity not related to meals is secondary to esophageal air aspiration.

Excessive belching associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders such associated functional dyspepsia, aerophagia and with gastrointestinal reflux disease.

Complaints of inability to belch associated risk esophageal achalasia and post-Nissan fundoplication.

Excessive belching reported to occur in bout 7% of individuals with a similar frequency in both genders.
