Basal-like breast cancer

Adjacent to the basement membrane are basal cells.

Consists of a subgroup of breast cancer that expresses basal-like genes.

Occurs more often in younger patients, is more aggressive, and regularly has TP53 mutations.

Basal-like breast cancers mostly fall into to the TNBC (triple negative breast cancer) classification.

15% to 54% are positive for PR, ER, and HER2.

An estimated 75% of patients with TNBC have basal-like markers.

Basal-like breast cancers Are homogeneous and the poor prognosis of triple negative breast cancer may be due to the basal-like subtype that makes of a large portion of triple negative breast cancers.

An estimated 75% of patients with triple negative breast cancer have basal-like markers.

EGFR are expressed in a large portion of basal-like hormone negative breast cancer.
