Autologous cultured chondrocyte implantation

Utilized for focal injuries to the articular cartilage of the knee joint.

Not utilized for degenerative disease of the knee.

Cells are harvested from the knee arthroscopically and cultured and expanded in the laboratory, and then a small periosteal proximal tibial patch is sutured over the articular cartilage defect with the cells injected behind the patch.

Results are good in 90% of cases in meniscal allografting.
