Clesrovimab (brand name Enflonsia) is a long-acting monoclonal antibody approved for preventing severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease in newborns and infants entering their first RSV season, providing rapid and durable protection through a single injection.
OIt works by providing passive immunity against RSV, significantly reducing RSV-associated lower respiratory infections and hospitalizations, and is given as a single, non-weight-based dose before or during the RSV season.
Prevents RSV lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) in vulnerable infants.
Mechanism: A monoclonal antibody that gives the baby immediate antibodies for protection.
Administration: A single intramuscular injection, regardless of the baby’s weight.
Duration: Designed to protect for about 5 months, covering a typical RSV season.
Clinical trials showed significant reductions in RSV hospitalizations (84%) and medically attended infections (61%).
It’s a longer-acting antibody compared to older options like palivizumab.
It offers a single-dose solution, simplifying administration, unlike monthly treatments.
In a study of infants and increased risk of severe RSV disease, a single dose of clesrovomab had results similar to those of monthly pavilizumab with respect to safety and incident of RSV associated disease.
