Transient tachypnea of the newborn

Self-limited and usually lasts 1-3 days with no risk of further pulmonary dysfunction.

Results from delayed clearance of fetal alveolar fluid.

With advancing gestational age the volume of fetal fluid decreases, although not in a linear rate.

A benefit to vaginal births are that the pressure of the birth canal helps squeeze out fluid from the babies lungs, which helps prevent transient tachypnea.
