Mucinous retention cysts are common and benign normal feature of the adult cervix.
Frquently multiple.
May be translucent or opaque, white to yellow in color.
Range in diameter from a few millimeters to 3-4 cm in diameter.
At the transformation zone inflammation causes a block at the gland orifice as endocervical columnar cells secrete mucous become covered by squamous epithelium forming a mucinous retention cyst.
May cause enlargement of the cervix.
May follow childbirth or trauma.
Generally without symptoms.
Usually requires no therapy.
Rarely associated withpain or pressure from an enlarged cysts.
Treatment may include ablation by electrocautery or excision.
