General health checks, also known as general medical examinations, periodic health evaluations, check ups, routine visits or wellness visits account for approximately 8% of US ambulatory visits.
Such general health checks include: screenings, identification of risk factors, the goal of initiating early interventions to prevent future illness.
General health checks are not associated with reduced mortality or cardiovascular events.
They are associated with increased chronic disease recognition, risk factor control, preventive service uptake, and improve patient reported outcomes.
General health checks should probably be offered to high-risk individuals overdue for preventive services, uncontrolled risk factors, low self rated health, or poor connection or inadequate access to primary care.
