Cutaneous candidiasis

Caused by Candida albicans.

Common in diabetics and the obese.

Predilection for body folds.

Associated with use of antibiotics, immunosuppressed states, topical steroid use, and poor nutrition.

Most common in axilla, groin, inframammary areas and under the pannus of the abdomen.

Appears as erythematous areas with mild scaling, often with peripheral papules and pustules.

Maceration and cracking of the skin may occur.

May coexist with intertrigo.

Potassium hydroxide easiest method for diagnosis.
